We are pleased to announce the following faculty appointments to Wetherby-Pembridge in September 2017.

Miss Alice Charteris

Deputy Head of Wetherby-Pembridge

BA Hons Primary Teaching – Durham University

I am a highly- experienced educational practitioner with experience of both UK state and independent schools, across the key stages.

After beginning my career in the north-east of England, I moved to London to join Lyndhurst House Preparatory School as a class teacher. From there I went on to spend six years teaching at Bute House Preparatory School in Hammersmith, becoming Head of Lower School in 2015 where I was responsible for children in Reception (Prekindergarten), Year 1 (Kindergarten) and Year 2 (Grade 1).

I fell in love with New York while on vacation in the city a few years ago and I am delighted to be part of the team at Wetherby-Pembridge, New York from the outset. I enjoy cycling, hosting dinner parties and travelling in my spare time – I’m looking forward to exploring more of North America whilst living in the USA and I am extremely excited to be starting my new life in New York with my husband.

Miss Sarah Kilbane

Early Years Co-ordinator and Teacher

I will be joining the Wetherby-Pembridge New York team as the Early Years Coordinator and Reception Class teacher. I am originally from Berkshire, which is where I started my teaching career, attending Reading University to obtain my Graduate Teaching Certificate. I have enjoyed teaching in Berkshire, London and more recently in a British school in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Having specialised as an Early Years teacher I have spent much of my career to date teaching Reception and Year 1. I love the curiosity, boundless energy, and sheer honesty of children in these years! I am currently undertaking a research project focused on outdoor learning spaces, which is a real interest of mine.

Miss Emerald Fraser

Nursery Teacher

Foundation Degree in Early Years Education (University of Kingston) NVQ in Early Education and Child Development

I am Emerald and am very excited to be the founding Nursery Teacher at Wetherby-Pembridge, New York.

I have a passion for Early Years Education and since joining The Minors Nursery School in 2010 have worked across the younger age groups teaching children from 2 year to 5 year olds both in Nursery and Preparatory settings. I believe that a child’s introduction to education should be exceedingly happy and look forward to bringing the qualities and principles that I have used successfully in London to create a structured, yet magical and exciting play based learning environment.

I have been fortunate enough to travel all over the world and love experiencing different places and meeting new people. When I’m not teaching I enjoy outdoor activities, in particular skiing and running as well as cooking and food. I was very involved with Music and Drama when at school myself and go regularly to the theatre and enjoy listening to a wide variety of music.

Miss Samantha Cox

KS1 Teacher

I have lived, studied and worked in London for most of my life. I have a degree in History, and I have completed a PGCE in Primary Education, both at the University of Surrey Roehampton. I began my teaching career at a ‘Fresh Start’ school in inner London, developing an outdoor curriculum for my Reception (Pre-K) class, and raising standards as the school expanded each year. I spent several years teaching Year 1 (Kindergarten) and Year 3 (Grade 2) in two other London schools, before deciding to transfer my skills abroad. In March 2014, I secured a position at St George’s British International School in Rome. I taught both classes in Key Stage 1, following a creative curriculum. I have a passion for teaching in the early years of children’s education, seeing the vast and rapid amount of progress they make, and developing their enthusiasm, confidence and curiosity.

During my spare time, I like to go on long walks (when it’s not raining!) and regularly participate in aerobics or step classes. I enjoy reading and visiting museums, or day trips to historical locations, acting as a tourist! I have an increased desire to travel and experience new cultures, particularly after my international teaching experience.
