As I mentioned in the last edition of The Wetherbridge, we have a range of social and educational evenings in the pipeline. We look forward to launching them all very soon, but I am delighted to say that we now have our Spring Drinks Reception for the diaries. My great thanks go to the Heusgens who have kindly agreed to host an evening at the German Residence on Monday 5th March at 7pm. This will be a gathering for all current parents and our new families enrolled for September 2018. We will also be joined by other guests from around New York who are dying to hear more about our School! I hope all of you can make this event – it looks set to be another wonderful occasion. Invitations will be sent out next week. In September (the day the school opened its doors) I attended a Leadership Forum at Bank of America House. This was a British American Business event we had sponsored and it hosted a wealth of entrepreneurial talent. With leadership at the forefront of all discussions, it was surprising to hear the same themes being discussed by all keynote CEO speakers that night. Many felt a distinct lack of teamwork in the workplace, occasional decline in positive spirit under pressure, in general business etiquette, punctuality, manners and respect for others. This had been a real cause for concern for many in recent years, inspiring leading companies to invest in Growth Mindset and personal development courses for employees; all in the name of enhancing performance. They spoke openly about ambition and the competitive drive motivating many young recruits joining the workforce with outstanding educational and sporting backgrounds – labelled by one speaker as the ‘competition community’. In many ways, this made me smile and makes all we do in schools that much more poignant. So much of what we stand for at Wetherby-Pembridge is about balance, character achievement and passion. It’s so important that children feel safe to make mistakes, grow from them and become resilient, happy and responsible – and thoroughly good company. A touch of altruism and warmth never go amiss and hopefully this message will help keep your children secure and confident on their roads to success in the future.
