As we draw to the end of our second term here at Wetherby-Pembridge, it is clear to see the school and our community flourishing. Our inaugural International Food Festival brought the whole school together this week with classroom carousel learning activities across the seven continents, culinary global passports to stamp and the Grand Finale Food Tasting in the Founders’ Hall. We had dumplings from China, Kashkeh Bademjan from Iran, soda bread from Ireland, Apple Strudel from Germany and Milk Tarts from South Africa amongst many other homemade international treats. The atmosphere in the Hall was wonderful and we thank you all for taking part.
This term must stand for ‘community’ for me as Head. Every day we welcome new visitors to the school and expand on current relationships. Many of you have commented on how much you enjoyed Graham Able’s talk on educating girls and boys and how they learn, and we look forward to welcoming George Davison on Tuesday 24th April for his talk on ’Children and summer’. It was good to welcome our friends from Alpha Plus last week as they completed their second Governance at the School. The Drinks Reception at the Heusgen’s on 5th March not only cultivated many on-going school friendships but introduced a wealth of new faces who have subsequently visited the school and are able to comment on how happy your children are here and how much they enjoy their learning experience. Next term, we look forward to hosting a Summer Cocktail Reception at the School on Wednesday 16th May at 7pm – more details to follow after Spring Break – and I believe one of our more literary fathers has suggested the first meeting of the WPNY Parent Book Club.
Shortly after we return from the holidays, we host our Spring Open Houses on Tuesday 17th and Thursday 19th April. Thank you to all who have volunteered to help on those occasions and I believe we shall be lucky to hear Mr Shifrin perform once more (complete with Big Apple Award) on the violin accompanied by Mr Anderson on the oboe. This will be yet another opportunity to display our School at its very best and it will be the first time that the Kindergarten children will be there to host and greet our visitors. Your children are by far and beyond the best ambassadors of what we truly stand for.
You will receive your new Summer Term Calendar Card on Monday which lists all planned summer events, trips and assemblies – watch this space for our first Sports Day and Prizegiving in June. I have heard a few stirrings on the school parent grapevine that many of you are already warming up for the 100 m dash…
I would like to take the time to wish you all a happy and restful Spring Break. This has been an excellent few months for the School and I thank you all for your support, friendship and good ideas! Term begins again officially on Monday 9th April and we look forward to welcoming you back and hearing your news then.
