Today marks the Day 17 milestone of Virtual Learning at WPNY. Honestly, well done. As each day passes, we are all starting to master a new way of living and learning and I commend us all for the way we are collectively choosing to navigate these unpredictable waters. At times like this, the importance of standing together, staying realistic and being human is vital. Between us, we are certainly united to provide the best possible provision and to encourage your children to rise to the challenge and make progress. As I have watched back Zoom lessons and talk to teachers this week, it would seem we are starting to make some solid progress and your children are slowly getting into new routines- I’m really pleased to see this. No new news on closures or re-openings in New York City yet, as we know, but I will stay closely in touch- My weekly epistle will follow on Monday!

Whilst many of us are in the comfort of our homes, we must stop and thank some of our WPNY parent front liners and those advising NYC educational practice. Thank you for all you are doing to help us and the City and for your tireless work and support. We are certainly in this together and everyone is playing their part.

It has been warming to follow the lives of inspiring people during these unusual times, and I have been so taken with the charming exploits of Captain Thomas Moore in the UK, the 99 year old war veteran who set out to walk 100 laps of his garden, ahead of his 100th birthday to raise money for the medical front liners. As a former British Army officer known for his philanthropic work, he served in India and the Burma campaign during the Second World War. As his 100th birthday approached, he has shown us all that it is never too late to make a difference and whilst he had originally hoped to raise around $2000, he ended up inspiring a nation and raising the equivalent of over $36 million! Not only that, but he captured the singer Michael Ball’s attention and is heading to the esteemed Number 1 slot in the UK singles charts with their version of Gerry and the Pacemaker’s classic, ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ featuring Michael Ball and the voices of the NHS Voices of Care Choir. What a wonderful spirit and example – we all need stories like this at the moment!
