Well, WPNY could not have asked for a better day all round yesterday! Clear blue skies, our usual energy and team spirit and we have been left with so many wonderful photographs, videos and family sporting achievements from around the world!
We are proud to announce that a phenomenal 1,068,480 seconds of exercise was achieved across the school and the princely sum of nearly $2000 was additionally raised for the Ronald McDonald House- well done, everyone!
Suffice to say, our first VIRTUAL SPORTS DAY was a real success. Before I go any further, I would especially like to express my thanks to Mr Kinsey and the team and to all who helped post videos and updates on our new You Tube channel and all other school social media portals. The school was even featured in New York Family Magazine who listed our new Sports Day format and how it had been ‘revamped, not removed!’ As we know, exercise over the day could take any form and I have watched videos from across the school covering walking, running, golf, swimming, basketball, water play, press ups, fencing and weights, amongst many others. Exercise took families and staff to rivers, beaches, forests and NYC roof tops, with living room workouts also proving popular! Mr Stephenson is a brilliant videographer and his early morning Sports Day wake up video, set to the theme tune of ‘Rocky’ was enough to get everyone up and moving! Mrs Monaco’s dear mother took part, as did Miss Wood’s sister and Mrs Wright’s mother and brother in the UK. Mr Kinsey’s family supported by making additions from the UK, Dubai and Sydney! Ms Esteva enrolled her family in the Philippines who also contributed towards our total! I have written on this subject in a previous Wetherbridge article, but the unifying power of sport can never be under-estimated. Never before, though has a day like today been needed to bring out the community spirit and fun!
