It was the first official day of Fall on Wednesday last week, but it is good to see the City and nearby beaches still basking in long days of sunshine- long may that continue! I was pleased to see you all on Friday at our first Family Assembly for 21-22 and with such a good line up of celebrations. My thanks once again to Alicia Horwitz and Jane Davies on behalf of the PA, for raising the bar high for our first fundraising initiative, and for enthusing the school community ahead of Sunday 7th November and our NYC/WPNY Marathon support event. We have been supporting the Ronald McDonald House for a couple of years now and we hope to make this term the best charity total on record as we support Mr Horwitz (father to Annabelle in Pre-K and Julian in Grade 1), Mr Stephenson and Miss Wood on their epic marathon run that Sunday. Our WPNY runners have completed a few marathons between them over the years and for Mr Horwitz, this will be his 3rd NYC Marathon. I write to encourage us all to ‘dig deep’ with fundraising support and then on the day itself, as we line the UES streets to support and cheer together. I look forward to seeing you all there and the PA will be publishing their planned fundraising events shortly.
Every year, I always enjoy seeing who is voted onto our School Council and Eco-Warrior committees, and you know how much we value and champion the voice and opinions of your children here. This September, we are proud to share with you the photographs of our new class reps, across Pre-K to Grade 4. These were announced in our assembly last week and I know their first meeting went well yesterday with Mr Stephenson and Mr Kinsey. As a Head and school, we always try to get behind any new initiatives as they are suggested and look forward to hearing where our students will take us this year- good luck!
It has been excellent to see our in-person clubs programme under way, and the long-awaited return to the 92Y today is the greatest excitement of all. I shall be personally heading over to the sports center this morning to share in this special occasion and watch them in their sessions. Once again, I would like to take the time to thank the team of expert and caring specialists at the 92Y- your children are in very safe and capable hands, on Lexington Avenue. Finally, it was wonderful to welcome so many independent school colleagues, consultants, and local Heads to our welcome evening event on Tuesday. It feels like a long time since we have been able to host an event like this and it was a wonderful advert for the school as we fully immerse ourselves into the next admissions season for the 22-23 school year. Amongst many other themes, this was an event to showcase our family community feel and who better to do this, than our very own Chef Nancy, who ran a ‘making and tasting hors-d’oeuvre workshop’ for our guests. This was the school at our very best and exceptionally good fun, which was the key ingredient to this special evening! As you know, we had to postpone Gina Malin’s talk, and drinks reception and I am delighted to say that we shall now welcome you all to the Founders’ Hall on Thursday 4th November from 6pm. It will certainly be worth the wait!
