I love this time of the school year and Spring Break works its magic in such a way that the whole school community comes back refreshed and looking forward to the final term of learning, events, and trips. I am always one to speak of the resounding merits of our wonderful school, as you know and now more so than ever, as I enter my final term of headship here in New York. Speaking with a lot of Heads and colleagues recently, the topic of ‘food’ seems to have been raised in conversations and how much some struggle to get the school daily and weekly menus right and many children talk about actively disliking the food served each day. I’m always delighted to report back how lucky we are at WPNY and that every school needs a Chef Nancy as, quite honestly, the children all rave about the lunches here. We had two alumni visit recently to see old friends and they were both delighted to be back in our Dining Room, eating the food and saying how good it was compared to where they were now! If I have learnt anything in my years of headship, it is the power of good food and how central this is, to running a happy and successful school. It is humbling to see the gratitude and appreciation on the children’s faces each day but that does not happen overnight and only comes with the consistent care and dedication of Chef Nancy and her team. This is one factor that makes our school unique, with all members of our team united to achieve success.
Thank you to our Charity Reps and PA Chairs who have gone over and beyond to champion our Ukraine Fundraiser and we look forward to raising lots of money for ‘Voices of Children’ and to hosting our second Head of School for the Day on 13th May. We were also pleased to announce that ‘+Pool’ will be the next chosen WPNY Charity for 22-23. We have many trips planned this term, beginning with the Grades 2 to 4 excursion to The Met on Monday. The children then head over to the Louis Armstrong House Museum in Queen’s for a day visit in May and the Grades 3 and 4 are preparing for their 2-night residential to the Ashokan Center in June. Then we look to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. This commemorates the 70th anniversary of the accession of Queen Elizabeth II on 6th February 1952. What an incredible feat of leadership and rule and Mr Stephenson will be leading the way with activities with the year groups in June ahead of the end of term. Our whole school Sports Day takes place on 17th May and more details will follow shortly – we hope to see you all there supporting!
