Our Building & Location

7 E 96th St c1940 (Municipal Archives)We are delighted to be refurbishing the Ogden Codman House at 7 East 96th Street, at 5th Avenue. This building has long operated as a school facility on the Upper East Side and its historic beauty, functional layout and superb location make it an ideal site for our new school. Our comprehensive multi-million dollar refurbishment will bring this notable building up to date with a fresh and bright aesthetic, while preserving quintessential elements of the building’s original interior.

The Beaux Arts mansion was first constructed in 1913 and has a rich and fascinating history.  Ogden Codman, a renowned Boston and New York based architect, was most well-known for his work on the famed mansions of Newport, RI and his collaborations with designer, Edith Wharton on several hotels and residences on the Upper East Side. Number 7, East 96th was one of four adjacent town houses that Codman had envisaged as an elegant Parisian building with wide, European style façades. That well-known façade still stands regally on 96th street and anyone passing by, will recognize its long-standing presence as a feature of the neighborhood.

TIMG_1658-Edithe building provides 15,000 square foot of inspiring space with 16 classrooms and teaching spaces over its 6 floors. Each classroom is fully equipped with diverse learning centers, specially designed educational furniture and the latest in educational technology. Our Art Studio, Science Laboratory and Music Room are specially furbished for the needs of these subjects. We are particularly proud to offer all students a community style, fully catered lunch, which they enjoy together in our spacious dining facility. Each day, students enjoy their morning or afternoon playtimes in the safety of our private outdoor courtyard.

Situated at 7 East 96th Street, at 5th Avenue, our school is just 200 feet from Central Park right in the heart of the Carnegie Hill Area of the Upper East Side. This area is known for its historic charm, plentiful cultural institutions and small neighborhood feel. All of our students at Wetherby-Pembridge make daily use of Central Park for our unique sports program, break times and nature walks.
